A severe allied bombing in 1943 left the once liveliest square in Europe, Potsdamer Platz, in total ruins. In the early 20th century Potsdamer Platz was one of the busiest and most entertaining districts in both the Germany and Europe. Since then the redevelopment of the square has gone amazingly well with its construction of several landmark towers, arcades, cinemas, observation decks and endless lines of stores. With this progression in recent years it has once again started to regain its old status. Today Potsdamer Platz has a lively, buzzing atmosphere with plenty of places for entertainment, shopping and tasteful selections of great hotels and bars for wining and dining.

The main attraction in Potsdamer Platz is of course the Sony Center with its fantastic mix of shops, restaurants, museums, cinemas, suites, hotel rooms, IMAX theatre and even its own legoland! This is undoubtedly the place to be for a day of family fun or if you're in to Architecture you will love its glass dome like structure. Filmmuseum Berlin is also an entertaining attraction in the Platz for those of you who are movie buffs. Shopping is far from scarce in Potsdam, there is no way you will leave this district empty handed with its great selection of stores, boutiques and shopping arcades. Don't miss out on the Arcadan shopping mall! Other enticing attractions that can be found in the area are the Debris Tower, casinos, theatres and the only surviving pre World War II building. The glamorous Berlin International Film Festival is held here every February since 2000 so if you are in the area at the time look out for red carpets and A list celebrities.
